Happy Hanukkah to All!

We’ve had a very busy time between Thanksgiving and Hanukkah. Both performances have come and gone but our class shined like the little stars they are for their part in the performances!

Ms Heather has been keeping us on our toes with lots of new things to learn in science class. From friction to making candles to Mars rovers and exploratory play. We never know what’s going to happen next! One thing is for sure though, we always have fun in Ms Heather’s class.

Ms Emily has been wonderful with our Music class. Slowly we are learning the songs and routines, though our favorite is still the shakey eggs and when Ms Emily lets us play her bongo drums at the end of class.

We had Farm animal week when we made feather ducks for art, played with farm and animals and farm houses for centers, and sang animal songs at circle time too.

Hanukkah preparations kept us the most busy this month though. We hope that you like the Dreidel card Hanukkah present that our children worked so hard to make for you. They really did a great job! We also made our latke costumes that we wore for the Hanukkah Performance. We decorated a giant dreidel together too! Have you seen in the front hallway of the preschool? We used water color paints to paint Hanukkah pictures and also colored Menorahs and made sponge paint Hanukkah picture and frames, which are hanging outside our room.

We’ve noticed in the last month that our little friends have grown up quite a bit! They are talking more, helping more, following the rules better, cleaning up at clean up time and throwing their napkins in the trash and putting cups away after snack all by themselves! And of course the most exciting part is that our friends are starting to communicate a lot more too! We hear more new words every day and new signs and gestures are emerging as well from our more shy children. This is the part that makes having them in our class the most rewarding of all. Seeing them grow, change and learn. We are so grateful to be allowed to experience this with you! We appreciate all that you do as parents for us and our little friends.

Winter break is coming soon, so this will be our last newsletter till the end of January. The new year is sure to bring many new and exciting things and we can’t wait to see what our days at school hold for us in the future!

We hope that you and your families are enjoying a festive holiday season and want to wish all of you a Very Happy Hanukkah! Can’t wait to see you all in the new year!

November News

Dear Parents,
Wow have we been busy! We’ve been busy having so much fun that we forgot to write about all we’ve been doing!

High Holidays have come and gone but we had fun learning about Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot and Yom Kippur, and now we are preparing for our Thanksgiving program! Time truly does fly when we’re having fun!

For Rosh Hashanah we learned a Happy New year song that we loved so much we even kept singing it after Rosh Hashanah had passed! For Sukkot we made fruit collages and colored paper fruit to hang in the Sukkah outside. Morah Miriam even read us a story in the Sukkah! It sure was fun. For Yom Kippur we made Israeli flags and a decorated our own paper Torah.

We’ve enjoyed our science and gardening classes too. For Science Ms Heather always has a new theme of the day for us. Last week it was outer space! We got to play with the sun (yellow balloons), and imagine blasting off in a rocket in a pretend rocket frame. The Science room was even lit by only an indoor sun (foil wrapped with light strings) hanging from the ceiling! In gardening Ms Heather has taught us how to pull weeds, plant seeds, and we learned how seeds travel to get planted in new places nature. We’ve loved seeing the plants that we planted the seeds for growing in our own Doobonim garden! Learning is so much fun!

We’ve had Music with Ms Emily too and we LOVE those Shakey Eggs and scarves. Our favorite song is “We are the Dinosaurs”. At the end of class Ms Emily always lets us tap her bongo drums. We very much enjoy dancing, singing and making music in her class!

Next week is out family Thanksgiving celebration! We’ve been working so hard to get everything ready on time, but we are looking forward to sharing this day with our families. Hope to see you there!

Welcome Back to School!

We have been having so much fun  these first two weeks of school!

We have beautiful kids in our room, 4 boys and 5 girls.  They are every excited- in our room we have a lot of activities.  We play with sand and sand toys in our science area.  We play with a lot of Legos and building blocks.

We do dramatic play, we try to cook, put babies to sleep in the crib, and we try to do dress-up.  We start with hats and skirts!

At circle time, we sing a good morning song, days of the week, weather song, and getting used to the calendar.  Everything is new for them!

We are so happy to have a new carpet with lots of animals ad the alphabet!

We try to point to each animal and the children try to remember the next day.

We dance to “If You’re Happy and You Know It”, and Twinkle Twinkle.

We have a lot of fun going  to Jewish Studies.  Now we are trying to prepare for Rosh Hashanah.  We will make a shofar, sing songs, and we will make apples & honey for art.

Besides Jewish Studies, we have a woderful music class with our new teacher Ms. Emily.  We enjoy doing some activities, like shaky eggs, rhthym sticks, singing our animal noises, and also- we dance to the music!

We have so many activities, such as Science class eith our new teacher Ms. Heather.  We are really happy to go to the science room to play with the different experiements Heather has for us.  We also garden  with Ms. Heather– we pulled weeds!  We pulled and tried to put them i the garbage by ourselves.

We also love P.E. where we get to play with balls and tunnels with Ms. Trudy!

Make sure to check Tadpoles for daily updates.

Please remember to send in  a picture for our family tree- we appreciate all of your help, we have great parents who really help us take care of our classroom family.  Thank you very much for your help!

Ocean Life and Water Fun!

It’s been ALL about H2O this week!  We have been learning about ocean life, singing “Slippery Fish” and had Water Play Day.  The little ones had SUCH a great time during water play in the courtyard..just a little taste of the fun days they would have this summer at Camp KiTov 🙂  Ms. Ilene from P.J. Library also came and read the girls a story about Noah’s Ark.

Also included are some pictures during music class..sorry if they are blurry, these girls like to shake it!!  I included a picture of snack time too; it’s amazing how fast your little ones have learned our routine!  We wash hands, sit nicely, and they even get up and throw their trash away when they’re done eating!  It’s been such a joy working with these girls and an amazing thing to behold as they have come out of their shells and blossomed 🙂

Best,

Ms. Billie

Birds!

It’s been all about birds this week!  We have gone on long walks outside to “hunt” for different birds (we have a geese family who lives on the pond behind the synagogue; they love them!)  We have also talked about the different sounds that birds make…there has been a lot of tweeting, chirping and quacking going on in here!  Our song this week during circle time was “Little Ducks” (to the tune of London Bridge):

“Little ducks go Quack, Quack, Quack

Quack, Quack, Quack

Quack, Quack, Quack

Little ducks go Quack, Quack, Quack

In the Springtime”

We found leaves outside to make “birds” out of them and they made some beautiful dot art so I could cut some birds shapes out of them:-)

Other pictures below include, P.E. fun, outside fun, Play-Doh fun and Mother’s Day fun:)

IMPORTANT DATES:

Monday, May 19th-Doobonim water Play day (just little baby pools in the court yard 🙂  Make sure you get your sunscreen forms and sunscreen in by Friday so your little one can participate.  We ask that they come in their bathing suit (send a swimmie diaper for the little ones, we will put it on right before we go out) sunscreen/bug spray applied by you, towel and a change of clothes—Thank you!)

Camp Kitov summer registration is open now!  We hope to see your little ones this summer, with fun themes, games, crafts, and water play!!

Best,

Ms. Billie
